Visas, Entry Rules, and Customs Regulations in Greece

A Schengen visa is required to enter Greece.

List of documents required for obtaining a visa to Greece:

Tourist visa (obtained by a travel agency):

– A foreign passport, the validity of which is at least six months from the date of application for a visa. In case of obtaining a new foreign passport, it is advisable to provide copies of all pages of the old passport

– a questionnaire filled out and signed by hand (passport data in Latin script)

– two color photographs 3×4 cm in size, without a corner

– a copy of those pages of the passport where the data and photograph of the owner are indicated

– an invitation from a Greek agency indicating the dates

– hotel reservation and voucher certified by the hotel

– a letter – an application from a Russian travel agency for a visa

– a certificate from the place of work indicating the position held and income

– a certificate from the bank on the availability of currency (original and copy) at the rate of 50 US dollars for one day of stay or a completed responsible application form

– medical insurance (original and copy) issued for the period of validity of the requested visa, which is valid throughout the Schengen area

Visa at the invitation of a private person:

– A foreign passport, the validity of which is at least six months from the date of visa application. In case of obtaining a new foreign passport, it is advisable to provide copies of all pages of the old passport

– a questionnaire filled out and signed by hand (passport data in Latin script)

– two color photographs 3×4 cm in size, without a corner

– a copy of all pages of the international passport

– copies of all pages of a civil passport. (When submitting documents, provide the original)

– an invitation (original and copy) and a copy of the identity card of the host (tautotita), certified by the Greek police station. The original invitation is returned at the time of submission of documents, as it may be required at the border when entering the country.

– a certificate from the tax office of the inviting person

– for employees – a certificate from the place of work, indicating the position held, income, date of issue of the certificate, outgoing number, telephone number and address on the letterhead of the organization with a signature and seal. For non-governmental organizations, it is necessary to provide copies of the license and registration certificate.

– for schoolchildren and students – a certificate from the place of study indicating the address and phone numbers of the educational institution, a copy of the student card. Minors must provide a birth certificate.

– for individual entrepreneurs – a notarized copy of the registration certificate, a certificate from the tax office on the income of an individual or a certificate of individual entrepreneurship with a seal.

– for the unemployed, students, pensioners, clergymen – a certificate from the sponsor’s place of work, a document confirming the degree of kinship, a sponsorship letter (written in any form with a personal signature).

– for a pensioner – a copy of the pension certificate, if there is a ruble / currency account, then an account statement is provided.

– medical insurance (original and copy) issued for the duration of the requested visa, which is valid throughout the Schengen area.

For minor children traveling with one of the parents or accompanied by a third person, it is necessary to provide the child’s birth certificate (original and copy certified by APOSTILLE), a copy of the parents’ marriage certificate, copies of the general Russian passport and foreign passport (if any) of the parents, a notarized power of attorney (original and copy) from the parents, (in the event of the death of a parent, a death certificate certified by APOSTILLE is provided). If the whereabouts of the parent is unknown, then a certificate from the police is provided).

When leaving the family, a copy of the marriage certificate is required.

According to TOP-MEDICAL-SCHOOLS, Greece is a member of the Schengen Agreement, according to which an entry visa to Greece allows its holder to move freely through the territory of the member states of the agreement: Greece, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Portugal.

Customs rules are traditional. It is forbidden to import drugs, weapons, antiquities. No more than 10 kilograms of food and drinks, 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars, 1 liter of spirits or two liters of wine, 75 ml of perfume or 0.375 ml of toilet water, gifts worth no more than 150 euros can be imported into Greece duty-free. Currency over 2500 USD must be declared. Each tourist is allowed to bring no more than one video camera, camera, tape recorder and other expensive portable items for personal use. The same restrictions apply to sports equipment such as skis or bicycles. Animals can be imported with a veterinary certificate certified by the Greek embassy and the authorized Russian institution. The certificate must confirm that the animal did not suffer from infectious diseases, and that he had been vaccinated against rabies not earlier than 12 months and not later than 6 days before entering Greece. For dogs, a certificate of vaccination against echinococcus is also required.

The export of antiquities is prohibited from the country, but copies can be freely exported. When buying fur coats, gold and silver items, icons of modern work, you must keep the receipt – you may be asked to present it at customs.
