Sights of Croatia

According to findjobdescriptions, the capital of Croatia – Zagreb is a medieval city with many art galleries and museums. Formed by the merger of two small towns (Hradec and Kaptol), Zagreb has become one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe. Conventionally, the city is now divided into two parts (Gradec and Kaptol). The center of the former Hradec is considered to be the church in the Gothic style of St. Mark, near which the main architectural attractions are concentrated: the presidential palace, the building of the National Croatian Assembly and the Historical Museum. The best place for a walk is considered a small pedestrian street named after. Ivan Zakmardiya after passing through which you can come to the old funicular, which connects the upper and lower parts of the city. In the upper part of the city there is an observation deck, which offers a beautiful view of the city. The center of Kaptol is also represented by a religious building (St. Stephen’s Cathedral), which was built on the site of an ancient cathedral destroyed by an earthquake in 1880. Be sure to see the nearby Baroque Archbishop’s Palace, which once served as a defensive structure that protected Kaptol from the raids of the Turks. Here is one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe – Mirogoj. The local University of Zagreb is considered not only the oldest in Europe, but also one of the most beautiful. A distinctive feature of Zagreb are numerous pedestrian zones, along which are scattered many restaurants and open-air cafes, which are decorated with beautiful terraces and balconies with flowers. Not far from Zagreb is the world famous health resort Naftalan, which is famous for the world’s only source of healing oil (naftalan), as well as hot mineral waters. One of the most famous resorts of the Adriatic is the Istrian peninsula, located in the westernmost part of Croatia near the border with Italy. For its unique resort opportunities, Istria has received the name “Istrian Riviera”. Istria is not only almost 500 km of the cleanest beaches, but also a rich history. The beach season here lasts from May to October, so this place is often visited by residents of other European countries. For those who are going to visit Istria, there are opportunities to visit Italy without a visa (Trieste, Venice), and having a Slovenian visa, you can visit the Alps. You should definitely see the Croatian national parks – Brioni and Plitvice, which are located very close to Istria. The Brioni Islands have been a national park in Croatia since 1983. They consist of two large islands and 12 small ones. All islands are covered with magnificent forests. On the territory of the Brioni Islands there are such famous sights as the villa of Marshal Tito, the ancient church of St. Germain, the remains of a Roman villa, which was built in the 1st century BC. The islands have excellent opportunities for both recreation and sports (diving, yachting, horseback riding, etc.). Opatija is one of the most expensive resorts in Croatia. Even during the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, rest here was considered a sign of wealth. Each hotel has its own sea water swimming pool. The resort has the best conditions for recreation. An exciting sailing regatta takes place in Opatija every year.

National cuisine of Croatia

Croatian cuisine is quite diverse, so it is conditionally divided into central and coastal. The formation of the central cuisine was most influenced by Slavic, Turkish and Hungarian dishes, and Greek and Italian cuisines are close to the coastal cuisine. A characteristic feature of the dishes of the central regions is their simplicity and at the same time satiety. The most popular here are stewed vegetables, turkey with pancakes, sausages of various varieties, puff pastry with meat or cheese, etc. Traditionally, any Croatian dish includes olive oil. For dessert, it is best to order excellent cakes or the famous walnut pie. The cuisine of the coastal part of the country is more diverse in seafood dishes, but meat dishes are still popular here. One of the best dishes of this region is smoked ham with cheese and goulash made from different types of fish. Separately, it is worth highlighting local cheeses, which in some cases are used as souvenirs. A standard dessert is represented by fruits, including those that have undergone special heat treatment.
