Colorado is located in the western part of America. The majestic Rocky Mountains are inextricably linked to the image many people have of Colorado. Colorado’s history traces back to the prehistoric Pueblo tribes who lived in cave dwellings in what is now Mesa Verde National Park. The Spaniards ‘discovered’ Colorado at the end of the 16th century and named the state after the red soil.
Arts & Culture in Colorado
The arts and culture scene in Colorado is surprisingly vibrant. That may not be what you’d expect from an American destination, but Colorado is winning internationally with a number of top museums such as the Denver Art Museum, Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA Denver). The Denver Performing Arts Complex is one of the largest in America and home to the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Opera Colorado, Denver Center Theater Company, and the Colorado Ballet.
Food & Drink in Colorado
Colorado is a tasty exception to the rule where America is not immediately known as a gourmet destination. Of course you can indulge in fast food and liters of soft drinks here. But mostly focused on local and organic food, Colorado is known for the healthy lifestyle of its residents.
In addition to an active life in which there is a lot of sport, healthy and fresh food is also important for the Coloradans. The state has the least overweight population in all of America and is very focused on farm-to-table food. For example, from May to the beginning of October, there are weekly farmers markets in Denver, Aspen, Vail, Boulder and Telluride where you can get the best vegetables, fruit and dairy products that come fresh from the farm. The Colorado ‘cuisine’ is also known for its Mexican influences, which are especially prevalent in the south. This part of Colorado used to be part of Mexico.
Colorado Beer Paradise
Only 2% of the total population in the United States lives in Colorado, but the state is home to 10% of the breweries in the entire country. There are now more than 200 microbreweries that brew the tastiest and most special beers. You can visit most of the breweries and immediately taste what makes Colorado beer so special. The most famous brewery is the New Belgium Brewing Company, in Fort Collins, which makes the award-winning Fat Tire beers.

History of Denver
Denver originated during the gold rush in 1858 when prospectors found flakes of gold on the South Platte River and Cherry Creek. Soon, many gold prospectors tried to find their fortune here.
From a gold city to an elegant metropolis
William Larimer planned to build the city from the east side of Cherry Creek. He named the city after the then governor of the state of Kansas named James Denver. Denver was not immediately recognized, as cities were also being built on the other side of Cherry Creek. The city has also known many setbacks. In 1863 there was a major fire that devastated business district. After that, the war between the Americans and Indians caused a food shortage.
